ATMO336 Hurricane Term Paper

Below is listed the grade breakdown for the hurricane paper. The columns "intro" through "conclusion" are a subjective grade for a certain aspect of the paper. They are

• intro (15%) -- Introduction: Background information and a clear explanation of the issue
• body1 (30%) -- Body: Is the paper easy to understand? Do the arguments and conclusions make sense? Is the paper interesting to read?
• body2 (20%) -- Body: Did you do enough outside research? Are there enough sources for the detail asked by the assignment? Did you use the outside material properly? Did you write down opinion without reference?
• body3 (20%) -- Body: Did you discuss each point in detail? Are each of the points made described well enough such that the general public can understand? Did you discuss the points correctly? Were too many/few points discussed?
• conclusion (15%) -- Conclusion: Wrap-up, concluding remarks and any implications

Please note that since these are content grades, they are fixed. If you decide to turn in a re-write, these grades will NOT change. The only grades that are affected by rewrites are the columns labeled "misc" "spell_gramm" and "citations" which are

• misc -- Miscellaneous: Not including a title, not including parenthetical references, not including a bibliography, etc. (points off vary)
• spell_gramm -- Spelling/Grammar: Typos, punctuation errors, improper diction, poor/unintelligible sentence structure (-0.5 to -1.0 points per infraction; repeated errors are only marked once)
• citations -- Reference Errors: Not citing a source/including specific information without a source (-2 points per infraction), improperly citing a source (-1 per points per infraction, indicated by *)

Rewrites will be able to receive back half of the points lost ONLY to spelling/grammar, citation, or miscellaneous infractions.

Grade Calculation

The final grade was calculated by taking the percentage (i.e., the sum of "intro" "body" and "conclusion" columns divided by 100) of the max points available to you. Example: You lost 2 points on spelling/grammar errors and 6 points on citation errors. Therefore the maximum amount you can receive is a 92 (100 - 2 - 6 = 92). If the sum of "intro" "body" and "conclusion" is 90, then your grade is 83 (90% * 92 = 82.8).
