Dec 6:

Final will be in ILC 140 from 11-1 on Monday, Dec. 10.  It will be comprehensive, with about 1/4 dedicated to Chapters 13-14, and the other 3/4 covering all the material from Chapters 1-12.  There will be about 50-60 questions.

For credit on the final, you need to turn in your clicker

Nov 27:

Review session slides are here.

Nov 19:

Quiz #3 was handed back today.  There will be a curve.

Note that on the recent lectures, you can use slide-show mode with the pdf files to re-create the animations used in lecture.  This may help understanding some of the busier slides.

Nov 7:

I’ve written up a short document that will help you write and revise your experiment reports

Nov 6:

Review session slides are here.

Nov 5:

The review session will be Tuesday at 5:00PM in ILC 140.

The Quiz #3 study guide is out.  Quiz #3 is on Wednesday, Nov. 7.  I am trying to schedule a review session.  I’ll let you know on Monday when/where it will be.

The third 1S1P assignment is out.

Oct 19:

Experiment #2 deadline extended to Wednesday, Oct 24.

Bring in your Exp. #2 lab kits to receive a “supplementary information sheet” that will very much help you in writing your report.

1S1Ps are not an optional part of your grade.

The next 1S1P assignment is due Oct 24.  You can turn in up to 2 reports.

We handed out clickers today.  We also postponed Expt. 2 to be this Friday.  Due dates will be adjusted accordingly.

Sep 20:

A Quiz #1 Study Guide is now available.

Sep 19:

I will hand out Experiment 2 in class either Friday or Monday.  If you want to do Experiment 1 instead (a few weeks from now), send me an email.

I will be handing out clickers in class on Friday or Monday.  Please bring your CatCards.

1S1P and Experiment 1 are due in class on Friday!

Quiz #1 will be on Wednesday!

Sep 17:

The practice quiz and its solution set (and study guide) are available.

Sep 12:

Stephen Bieda will not have office hours on Thu. Sep. 20.

Sep 10:

Remember the Practice Quiz on Wednesday.

Sep 2:

I am cancelling Experiment #4 because we don’t have enough materials.  Those of you who signed up for experiment #4 will automatically be given experiment #3.  (I will move the due date for #3 back one week to give more time.)  THIS MEANS THAT EACH EXPERIMENT IS GOING TO BE FULL WITH ~50 STUDENTS EACH!

To get a kit for Experiment #1 you need to have 1) signed up in class on Wednesday, Aug 22, and 2)  signed up on the course listserv (there are more than 35 people who still need to sign up on the listserv — see details under the Syllabus).  Otherwise I cannot hand out your lab materials.  This experiment can take a long time.  Don’t run up against the deadline.

If you want to be “bumped” from #1 to #2 or #3, please 1) make sure you’re signed up on the listserv, and 2) let me know by email of your preference.  I can’t promise that everyone will be able to change, but I will try.

Aug 31:

The first experiment was handed out today.  I still have 23 more kits.  If you signed up for Experiment #1 but didn’t get your kit, please see details at the “Term Report List” link on left

Aug 30:

Check out the NOVA program “Dimming the Sun” to appear Sep 4 at 8PM (and again the next morning at 2AM) on Channel 6 (KUAT—PBS).  I am allowing this show to be a 1S1P topic, but be careful.  See the 1S1P Assignments link for details.

Aug 29:

The first 1S1P assignment is posted under “Reading Assignments” on the left.  Please read the directions carefully before beginning.

The graduated cylinders came in.  You will have an experiment assignment in Friday’s lecture

The lecture notes have been posted.

Aug 28:

The past two lectures have been posted.  Still no graduated cylinders, so no lab assignments yet.

Aug 22:

Remember to bring a 3x5 card to each lecture for feedback and attendance.  The enrollment glitch mentioned on Aug. 20 has been fixed.  Anyone missing 2 of the first 3 lectures will be administratively dropped.  If you are not enrolled and have joined the listserv, and if you have attended 2 of the first 3 lectures, I will sign your change of registration form so you can add the course on Monday, Aug 27.

After Friday, Aug 24, you will need to “pass” the practice Quiz to add the course.

Aug 20:

Remember to register with the listserv, as described below and in the syllabus.

Remember to bring a 3x5 card to each lecture for feedback and attendance.

The class is full.  As of now, when a spot opens up, adds will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis through WebReg.  There is a glitch in the system preventing me from controlling who gets added.  After the glitch is fixed, I will control who is added to the system based on attendance and registration through the listserv.

No office hours Monday, Aug 20.

Aug 13:

First day of class is Monday, Aug 20.  We will review the syllabus and course mechanics, and will probably have some time to get into “testable” material as well.

The course will rely on the text: Essentials of Meteorology, by C. Donald Ahrens, 5th edition.  See the syllabus for purchasing options.

You will probably get more out of Monday’s lecture if you have already read pg. 1-7 in Chapter 1 (up to but not including “Vertical Structure of the Atmosphere”).

Occasionally, I may want to send the class email notifications of updates to this website’s announcements.  For example, this might include modifications to reading assignments or any emergency changes in office hours.  To receive such notices by email, please subscribe to the course list server by following the directions at the following link: http://listserv.arizona.edu/Subscribe.html.  The list you want to join is “conant”.
