Topic #8 - Write a story of your own

Your story may be fact or fiction.  Fictional stories may include mystery, science fiction, Buddhist Monks, romance, politics, history, just about anything.  The story must fit onto one side of one page and must be double spaced.  There must be a connection of some kind with material or a topic (topics) covered in the course this semester.  Factual stories should recount a close encounter with unusual or severe weather, an observation of interesting or unusual atmospheric or weather phenomena, or something of that nature.

Fictional stories will be graded using the following criteria:
You will receive 3 pts for choosing this topic
Connection (how strong of a connection is there between your story and course material): 1, 2, or 3 pts
Creativity (how imaginative or creative is your story): 1, 2, or 3 pts
Interest (was your story interesting or fun to read): 1, 2, or 3 pts
Writing quality or choice of appropriate writing style: 1, 2, or 3 pts

For factual stories the creativity category might be replaced with an Observation/Understanding category (how detailed or complete were your observations or understanding of what you saw or experienced).

You can earn an additional 4 pts by including something of an artistic nature.  This might be a drawing, illustration, painting, photograph, carving, sculpture, just about anything.  The art work should be on a separate piece of paper or, perhaps, a separate object.  The work of art can either complement your story or illustrate material or a topic covered in the course.
