Here are some of the main points to think about while you read about the earth's temperature in the past:
What is the interest or reason for trying to determine the earth's average temperature in the past?
You should probably discuss both direction measurements of past temperature.  How far back in time do they extend and what have they revealed.  What are some of the errors direct measurements may contain?
You should probably explain what is meant by a "proxy estimate" of past temperature and might include and discuss a proxy measurement technique.

What changes in global average temperature do there appear to have been over the past 1000 or 2000 years?

Explain the material in your own words - your report should be your understanding and explanation of the material.  Avoid generalities, try to include specific details and examples from the reading section.  The separate sections or paragraphs of your paper should blend together into one seamless coherent report.  Your report should be nearly free of misspelled words and grammatical errors.
