There were a lot of good haiku poems:

Mostly nitrogen,

You thought it was oxygen
Tricky atmosphere

Nitrogen, argon
Water vapor, oxygen
Carbon dioxide

A few educational haiku poems:
This is important because it justifies giving you an assignment like this.

Volcanic blasts plus
photodissociation
created ozone

O2 came first from
high energy UV light
next it came from plants

An "angry" poem or two:
(I personally liked this poem)

We have oxygen
but why all that other crap?
Like argon, for what?

Some "weird" poems:

Barometer joy
I made you as a child
Predictions wrong eh!

Here is what I though was the best poem:
(despite the fact that there are only 4 syllables in the last verse instead of 5)

From the atmosphere
oxygen, fills many lungs
while people play
