Final Exam Information
I spent 5 or 10 minutes at the beginning of class discussing the
upcoming Final Exam.
The Final Exam is Monday May 9 from 3:30 - 5:30 pm in PAS 588.
The Exam will cover the entire semester.
So have a look at both the Summary
of Topics that
was prepared for the midterm and also the newer Summary of Topics for the Final Exam.
Some of the problems on this semester's Final Exam will probably
come from previous exams just as was true with the Midterm Exam.
I won't take any questions from
exams that have been lined out in the list above. Specific
problems from other exams have also been ruled out. There were a
lot of questions on the 2009 Final Exam (from the 1st time I taught
this course) that I liked so it is likely that a question or two (or
at least very similar questions) will come from that
exam.
The format of this semester's Final Exam will probably be the same as
that of the Midterm Exam. There'll be a first question that
everyone should answer. The first question will actually consist
of several questions for you to answer with short written descriptions
or illustrations. You had to answer 3 questions like this on the
midterm. I may ask you to answer an additional question or two on
the final. Some of the course material we have covered recently
lends itself better to this style of question.
Then you'll need to work 3 or 4 problems depending on whether you're an
undergrad or a grad student.
Basically you'll have a little more time during the Final Exam to do
roughly the same amount of work as you had on the Midterm Exam.
