University of Arizona

The University of Arizona has been instrumental in framing the Centers' objectives and plans, involving other universities and the private-sector in the process. We work closely with co-located USDA and USGS laboratories that participate in the Centers' programs, and we are home to several centers of excellence that are available to Chinese, U.S., and an international array of scholars.

• Arizona Agricultural Experiment Station - conducts research and supports others in research across the state of Arizona.
• Arizona Remote Sensing Center - helps researchers, students and teachers with geographic information systems and computer applications, and in accessing and using remotely sensed data.
• Institute for the Study of Planet Earth (ISPE) organizes interdisciplinary study of environmental change.
• Regional Earth Science Application Center - supported by NASA to apply remote sensing within the Colorado River Basin to assess and predict Southwest water resources.
• Science and Technology Center for Sustainability of semi-Arid Hydrology and Riparian Areas (SAHRA) - supported by the NSF to conduct research and public outreach to promote sustainable management of water resources in semi-Arid regions around the world.
• Water Quality Center - supported by the NSF to conduct research and education programs to resolve water quality problems in desert ecosystems.

The Centers also collaborate with Columbia University and the research and education opportunities available in Biosphere 2, the worlds largest, environmentally controlled, under glass facility for ecosystem research.
